About Matthew Becker

IMG_0234Matt created this site as a place for local professionals and musicians to come together and share recipes of their two passions: food and music.

He loves to throw dinner parties and cook for family, friends or clients, something that he learned from his Great Aunt, Margarite Schuman.  When he’s not doing that, he’s with his three kids with whom he lives in Rye, NH, just close enough to the beach to to have a parking sticker and go to Jenness Beach most summer days.  Once in a great while, he gets to drive a 1963 Corvette Convertible (which has been in his family since 1965) up and down the Seacoast to unwind.

Additional fun facts about Matthew Becker from Portsmouth, NH…..   He cooked in restaurants from the 8th grade all the way through graduating with a Finance degree from the University of New Hampshire.  For a short time in his late teens, he was a sponsored snowboarder and had his 15 minutes of fame when he beat Jeremy Jones in the 1990 New England Cup Giant Slalom Finals at Stowe, VT.  Jeremy went on to become one of the worlds greatest big mountain snowboarders, scoring the cover of Transworld Snowboarding magazine with the first descent of Shrangri-la in the Himalayan mountains in 2014 at 21,400 feet.  He’s also a class act.

Matt also enjoys grocery shopping for dinner parties, wearing flip flops, fly fishing and collecting guitars.  He’s been playing guitar since late 2010.  It was something he always wanted to do, but never made the time.  Now he does.  His favorite time of day is the morning, when the house is quiet, the sun is coming up and there is a fire crackling in the fireplace.

Matt has been gluten-free since he was 16 years old, long before it was trendy. Matthew rode in the Pan Mass Challenge 8 times as a member of the Seacoast Young Team.  The Pan Mass Challenge is a 192 mile bike ride to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, through the Jimmy Fund.

Matt loves to buy records at Bull Moose Music, in Portsmouth, NH.  Nothing like listening to vinyl.  Growing up in New Hampshire, his father listened to nothing but classical music on vinyl, and therefore, so did he.  Now, all these years later, his favorite musicians are Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones.  His favorite kind of music is the blues.

When he’s not playing music or cooking, he’s active in his community.  Matt is currently the President of the Seacoast Regional Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters and has been an active board member since 2008.  He also sits on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Hampshire.  While BBBS is his primary focus, he is also on the Board of Directors of Helping People Helping Pets, which is a non-profit in Portsmouth, NH.  Matt also is a member of Great Bay Corvette Club, which is a non-profit that raises money each year to give to another non-profit that will help the community.  The non-profit of choice for 2015 is the New Hampshire Food Bank!  Recently, he was invited to join the Development Committee for the Prescott Park Arts Festival.

Matt works as a Vice President for Morgan Stanley in Portsmouth, NH.
